[ back to Isolation milling ]
Design (Layout) of PCB => Postprocessor => Isolation milling
Headword: CAD => CAM => CNC
Here the example Sprint-Layout => SL2M3 => Mach3 declared:
A Postprocessor is a CAM-Program (SL2M3),
that which from of a CAD program, (Sprint-Layout) output data (HPGL-Code)
in a for CNC machines (Mach3) usable format (G-Code) converts.
And the HPGL code from Sprint-Layout contains only two dimensions (2D), ie X and Y coordinates as well as the commands lift up tool and lift down tool. (Pen Up / Down)
The CNC machine needs 3 dimensions (3D), so in addition to the X and Y coordinates of the HPGL code, the Z coordinates of lift up tool and lift down tool for milling and drilling.
In addition, a few other features for CNC machine such as tool change from the post-processor generates.
Note: The term CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) is associated with SL2M3 actually inappropriate. Manufacturing subordinated hand work, but that is no longer required in the post-processor SL2M3. Except for some measurement inputs and click on the Start button makes SL2M3 (also thanks to the downright ingenious milling export of Sprint-Layout) everything myself.
